Before I dive into the details, I have to take a moment to reflect on how far I've come. Looking back over the last seven months at Vephla University, I'm honestly amazed by the transformation. If someone had told me a year ago that I'd secure a Product Designer role before even completing my programme, I probably wouldn't have believed them. Yet here I am, living that reality, and I'm incredibly proud of how far this journey has taken me.

The defining moment of my journey came during our capstone project. As part of the user research phase, we were required to conduct real, face-to-face interviews instead of relying on assumptions. At first, I was nervous about approaching people, but I embraced the challenge. I decided to interview several colleagues at my NYSC workplace, including the Team Lead of the development team. During our conversation, he became genuinely interested in my UX knowledge and wanted to learn more about the work I had been doing at Vephla.
A few days later, he reached out with a design task. I gave it everything I had, spending late nights refining every screen, paying close attention to usability, functionality, and visual design—the very principles Vephla had consistently taught us. When I presented the final solution, the team was impressed. To my surprise, I was immediately offered a position as a Product Designer on the development team. That single opportunity changed the direction of my career before I had even completed my studies.
Looking back, I now realize that the opportunity wasn't luck—it was the result of months of intentional preparation. The capstone project, challenging assignments, strict deadlines, and collaborative team projects had already equipped me with the practical experience employers were looking for. One of the biggest advantages Vephla gave me was learning how to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, a skill that has made communication and collaboration in my new role feel completely natural.
Every lesson, every mentor, and every project helped shape the designer I am today. The Product School mentors taught me to pay close attention to users, solve real problems through thoughtful design, and create products that are not only visually appealing but genuinely useful. Today, I no longer feel like someone who's just entering the industry—I feel prepared, confident, and capable of making meaningful contributions from day one.
